Born into a large & vibrant family, where social dining & the importance of good food has always been a large part of life, Louise’s passion for designing fun yet functional silverware has been strongly influenced by shared family life.
Presently her fixation plays with common designs, combining comparable objects, then rethinking them to subtly create new interpretations. Therefore, challenging how you perceive and use her work. This can result in a new relationship between user and object, interactions between diners & elements of entertainment.
In Walker’s designs, functionalism meets reinterpretation, creating a modern collection of domestic objects, expressing a visually sleek-geometric language. Her designs aim to change our behaviour and interaction with the everyday object, through exploration and enjoyment.
Walker’s distinctive design ethos is elegantly represented through a rare connection of opposing metals and purity of material; working with the contrast of silver & stainless steel. This exclusive process offers Walker a true signature, as she challenges herself to produce beautifully crafted contemporary objects.
“My “smithing” days began in a shed in East London. From there I stepped up to the rather more refined environment of Crown Jewellers Aspreys (later to become Asprey-Garrards) in London’s Bond Street, where over 25 years I mastered all the skills of the “across the board” gold/silversmith/jeweller, such as chasing, box making, forging, hammering, and raising.
SEW Ltd Gold/Silversmiths was launched in 2003. I am a Freeman of the City of London and the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths; A fellow of the Institute of Professional Goldsmiths; A fellow of the Society of Designer Craftsmen.
I love my work, whether I am crafting individually designed wedding rings, or mustering every bit of my expertise to transform the more elaborate gold/silverware imaginings of my customers into reality.
My ethos is simple: the highest level of technical expertise melded with flexibility and creativity. My creations are always unique, and always a matter of personal pride.
Over the years I have been the craftsman behind such prestigious projects as the Cricket World Cup, the Ryder Cup, trophies for the Royal Ascot races and repairs to the F A Cup! I have also created commissions for HRH the Prince of Wales and other members of the Royal Family;
Ana was born in Germany. In her early childhood her family moved back to Spain where she grew up and since 1996, Ana lives in London.
In 1999, she discovered a passion for jewellery making, which she followed by taking on a ND & HND in Jewellery & Silversmithing at Sir John Cass Department of Arts, Design and Media. In addition, during her years at Sir John Cass, Ana attended various evening classes and short courses to enhance skills and further her understanding of specialist techniques use in working with precious metals.
In 2007, she set up her workshop with other silversmiths in East-London. Throughout this time, Ana has gained confidence and experience in her work. These have allowed her to master key techniques and create more complex and distinctive pieces which will have an appeal to a larger audience. Ana has won various awards and has exhibited widely across the UK. Furthermore, she works on commission for well established artist & designer silversmiths.
Her designs are characterised by the use of clean lines that flow aesthetically with the creation of asymmetrical angles. In her work, she likes to capture a balance in which the object itself and its decoration create an unusual and minimalist design.
